Digital Illustration (2020)

Quirks is an illustrative self portrait journey expressing some of my more unique habits. In the past, I have spent a lot of time creating work that is focused on representing others. A lot of this past work is also very serious and handles some delicate topics. Now with this project, I turn my attention inward to reflect on unique aspects of myself in playful representations. My initial interest in illustration and design was first sparked by Adventure Time, a series created by Pendleton Ward. As I continued to learn more about illustration, Rebecca Sugar also became one of my big inspirations for Quirks. I use illustration in this project to reconnect with that initial spark and child-like excitement I had when I first discovered illustration. I draw myself in these scenarios to challenge myself to be okay with these unique qualities of myself.
